OFP Celebrates Second Anniversary

The Order of Franciscan Penitents, a religious Order in the Charismatic Episcopal Church, celebrated its second anniversary on November 17, 2009. The Order was instituted by the Most Rev. Michael Davidson, Bishop of the Central Province, on November 17 of 2007. Seven persons, three priests and four lay persons, made their professions as members of the OFP in the historic Hatton Chapel outside of Columbia, Missouri. Fr. David Almond, OFP, was installed as the Order’s first Guardian at that service. One year later, an eighth member was added as she made her profession as a Sister in the OFP community.

The OFP currently consists of five men and three women. At present, there is one other woman who is preparing to undertake the course of study leading to profession as a member of the community. The Order heard the call of the Holy Spirit to begin ministry in the urban community of Columbia, and thus moved from its rural Missouri chapel and now meets in downtown Columbia. Seven of the members live in Missouri, and one in Wisconsin. A new web site was recently launched, which includes reflections, information about the order, and a photo gallery. The web site is www.franciscancec.org.
